The new program, which commences in the Fall 2013 semester, is designed for non-lawyers seeking graduate-level management skills and training in order to pursue leadership positions in criminal justice related fields. The program is well suited to law enforcement professionals, border patrol officers, corrections officers, and security specialists as well as those working in transportation protection or military personnel looking to move into the civilian workforce.

In 2013, Victory Media selected Widener University as a “military-friendly school” for the third year, and Grena-Piretti notes that Widener Law is pleased to further the mission to support military personnel with this new program, saying, “This online certificate program serves veterans by providing courses enriched with the practical skills and knowledge necessary to transition into the civilian workforce in a criminal law-related field.”

The online format of the certificate program will allow working professionals the flexibility to pursue the certificate on their own schedule. Experienced faculty will teach all of the courses, providing their wealth of expertise and knowledge within the field of criminal law to students no matter where the student is located.

“Students will find the Criminal Law Certificate offers a unique learning experience taught by diverse faculty. Professors use web-based video sessions and online forums,” says Grena-Piretti, adding, “The variety of interaction actively engages student collaboration and creates an enriched learning environment.”
