On Tuesday, November 13th
, the law school will welcome alumna Lisa Goodman ‘94 for a lunch-hour talk about her work on behalf of LGBT rights issues.
Goodman, currently a partner at the Wilmington, Delaware law firm of Young, Conaway, Stargatt and Taylor, was a driving force behind Delaware's civil union law, which became effective on January 1 of this year. Sponsored by the law school's OUTLaw group, the event will feature an informal interview conducted by Widener Law Professor John Culhane
, who writes extensively on LGBT rights, and is the co-author of Same-Sex Legal Kit for Dummies
, to be released next week.
Culhane called Goodman "a tireless and astonishingly effective crusader for legal equality. It's an honor both to call her one of our alumnae and to have the chance to work with her in doing this kind of legal and community-based education."
Topics to be covered include not only the civil unions bill, but also the recent developments on marriage equality and the future of alternative legal institutions, such as the civil union, to marriage itself. The event will be held in the Student Lounge off Main Street
, and free pizza and soft drinks will be provided.
