Delaware campus announces plans for debates

DelawareDebatesPromo235pxThe Widener Law Delaware campus will host three debates over three weeks during the 2012 election season.

The debates, presented by WDEL 1150 AM and WHYY, will be held in the Ruby R. Vale Moot Courtroom.

All debates will run from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The schedule includes:

Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012
Race for Delaware governor featuring
Incumbent Jack Markell (D) vs. Jeffrey Cragg (R) and Mark Perri (Green, invited)

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012
Race for U.S. House of Representatives for Delaware featuring
Incumbent John Carney (D) vs. Tom Kovach (R) and Bernard August (Green, invited)
and Scott Gesty (Libertarian, invited)

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012
Race for U.S. Senate for Delaware featuring
Incumbent Tom Carper (D) vs. Kevin Wade (R) and Andrew Groff (Green, invited)
and Alexander Pires (I, invited)

Candidates will take questions from a panel of area journalists that include members of the WDEL and WHYY news staffs, as well as other media outlets. WDEL news anchor Peter MacArthur or Mellany Armstrong will moderate.

The debates will be broadcast live on WDEL 1150 AM, at, and at WHYY will record them for television broadcast at 5 and 11 p.m. on Oct. 17 for the governor’s race, Oct. 26 for the U.S. House race and Oct. 31 for the U.S. Senate race.

The law school is pleased to work with WDEL and WHYY to present these debates in a spirit of public service. The public is encouraged to attend in person. Ample free parking is available.
