Volunteer attorneys are needed, and a there will be a CLE from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for volunteer attorneys. Breakfast is included as part of the CLE. Attorneys who have previously attended a Wills for Heroes CLE are not mandated to attend. Attorney volunteers who cannot make it to the CLE are encouraged to contact the Delaware Wills for Heroes Office to make other arrangements. Those with estate planning expertise and those without are welcome. The assistance of notaries and paralegals is also welcome.

Widener Law became the Delaware affiliate for Wills For Heroes in March 2010, a move that brought the pro bono program to the First State for the first time. The first document-preparation event was held April 17, 2010 and the October 2011 event will mark the school’s fifth such event.

Widener Law alum Damiano del Pino ’11, who was instrumental in bringing the program to Widener Law’s Delaware campus, said, “When I saw Delaware had no chapter for Wills for Heroes I decided that had to change. Widener is a natural fit to be an affiliate organization. The law school places such an emphasis on public service that it just made sense to bring the two together. Everyone quickly became committed to the idea of Widener being the vessel that makes this opportunity available to Delaware’s emergency service workers.”

This event is dedicated to the memory of Gary M. Berg, Esq. (NJ, DE, and PA) who was one of the first Delaware Wills for Heroes volunteers and a staff attorney at Widener Law's Veterans Law Clinic. The clinic's Wills for Vets program will also have attorneys at this event for veterans who need this service.
