Widener Law plans next Wills for Heroes event
Public Relations
- Published: October 14, 2010
The Delaware campus has scheduled its third
Wills For Heroes
estate-planning event for Saturday, Oct. 16 and this time, the law school is hitting the road.
The day will mark the first document-preparation event being coordinated by the law school off campus – at the Sussex County Government Western Administrative Complex at 22215 S. DuPont Blvd. in Georgetown, Del.
Widener Law became the Delaware affiliate for
Wills For Heroes in March 2010
, a move that brought the pro bono program to the First State for the first time. The first document-preparation event was held April 17 with much success and the October event will mark the school’s third.
Attorney and student volunteers are crucial to the success of these events. The program benefits Delaware firefighters, paramedics, police, correction and probation officers and their spouses or partners. Volunteers prepare, at no cost, wills, advance health care directives and financial powers of attorneys.
Appointments last about 90 minutes to two hours and clients leave with all documents signed, witnessed, notarized and in effect. The law school keeps no copies.
“Part of our mission at Widener Law is to give back to the communities we call home. First responders put their lives on the line to keep Delawareans safe. It is a privilege to coordinate our people and our resources to help them make these personal arrangements, which are vital to piece of mind and family security. What better way to say thank you?” Law Dean Linda L. Ammons has said.
