“I’ve had some success and some publicity from the blog, but this has expanded the notice by a hundred-fold,” says Professor
John G. Culhane of working on a new weekly column at
365gay.com to appear every Thursday.
365gay Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Vanasco approached Professor Culhane to write a
guest column about the recent controversy in Virginia involving Governor Bob McDonnell and State Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s efforts to rescind protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation after reading
his take on the situation on his blog,
Wordinedgewise. The positive response to that guest column led Vanasco to invite Professor Culhane to contribute with a weekly column on the site.
Since the guest column on March 12th, Professor Culhane’s first two regular columns at 365gay have been posted, the first dealing with the balance between accommodating
religious beliefs and anti-discrimination laws, and the second addressing
how the law deals with gender non-conformity. This week’s column deals with the Justice Department’s aggressive
use of Title 9 in a bullying case brought by the New York Civil Liberties Union.
In addition to his column at 365gay, Professor Culhane continues to post regularly at his own blog,
Wordinedgewise. “It’s been exciting,” he says, “I’ve been blogging for a little over year and it’s a lot of fun, but it can be pretty labor intensive.”
