Fifteen groups of golfers teed off at 8:00 am on Saturday, April 24, 2010, to start the Fourth Annual Alumni and Friends Golf Outing in Central Pennsylvania.
Throughout the day, participants enjoyed a longest drive skills contest, a hole-in-one contest, and a pot of gold skills contest. The male and female champions of the longest drive skills contest sponsored by Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby LLP were Jan Budman ’06 and Steph Olivo, guest of John Olivo ‘98. The prize for each winner was two Philadelphia Phillies tickets donated by the law firm. While there were several close balls, no one won the hole-in-one car sponsored by Sutliff Cadillac HUMMER Saab. Larry Bartel ‘03 was the winner of the pot of gold contest, and one of only four golfers to land on the green during this particular skills contest. All golfers also got a coupon book which included a throw, power ball, and mulligan, to use during the round.
The winning team of four golfers with a score of 61 included George Bibikos ’03, December graduate Nicholas Fanelli, student Adam Zei, and student Grant Cannon. Also scoring 61 was a team of five alumni and future alumni, which included Christain Davis ’92, Timothy Yuncker ’96, and students Willie Gabler, Hunter Lewis, and Jim Hoppenjans. Finishing with scores of 62 were the foursome of Greg Mills ’03, Nate Guinta ’03, Jeff Watson ’03, and Matt Monaghan ’05, and a team comprised of Corey Mowrey ‘09, Todd Rothermel ‘09, and guest Don Murray.
At the post-outing luncheon sponsored by Buchanan Ingersoll and Rooney PC, event participants enjoyed a door prize drawing, raffle drawing, and 50/50 drawing. Businesses and organizations across the state donated items for both the raffle and door prize drawings. Winners of the door prizes went home with prizes such as sporting event tickets, amusement park passes, theatre tickets, golf apparel, and admission to local attractions among others. Those who purchased raffle tickets had the opportunity to go home with one of fourteen items including gift certificates to restaurants, cosmetic gift baskets, spa services, a canoe trip, a golf club, an overnight stay and breakfast for two at Bedford Springs Resort, and three Philadelphia Philles tickets. Jan Budman ’06 was the winner of the 50/50 drawing. Proceeds from the golf outing benefited the Widener Law Scholarship Fund.
