In July, Associate Professor John J. Capowski returned to Beijing to present at the 2nd International Conference on Evidence Law and Forensic Science.

The conference focused on the continuing development of China's first evidence code and brought together evidence scholars from China, Scotland, England, Australia, and the United States and representatives of the various branches of China's government .

Professor Capowski's presentation focused on how China's Uniform Provisions of Evidence, while modeled after our Federal Rules of Evidence, serve their reform effort. In addition to presenting his article, Professor Capowski co-chaired a panel on interdisciplinary research on evidence law. Because the article he presented in Beijing in 2007 has been published in Chinese in two of China's leading law journals, his conference host told him he is "a famous evidence scholar in China." He intends to continue his work with those involved in studying and reforming China's legal system.
