On the evening of Monday, February 16th, the International Law Society
and Widener Law’s Nairobi International Law Institute
held a cocktail fundraiser at the Barrister’s Club for Water is Life – Kenya
, a charity based in Newark, Delaware. Water is Life drills holes for deep wells in rural Kenya. Their projects provide clean water that reduces infant mortality, decreases childhood diseases, and enables young girls to go to school. The cocktail fundraiser also offered attendees the opportunity to purchase a variety of African jewelry and crafts.
After an introduction from Vice-Dean Patrick Kelly
, the Director of Widener Law’s Nairobi International Law Institute, Joyce Tannian, the founder of Water is Life – Kenya, gave a short presentation about the organization’s expanding network of water projects in southern Kenya. International Law Society President Matt McCrystal narrated a slide show describing his experiences in the Nairobi Summer Program.
