ITS Student Employment Job Descriptions:Lab Attendant/ConsultantInformation Technology Services employs students as Lab Attendants/Consultants for work in
the University’s general computing labs. The position of Lab Attendant/Consultant requires a
minimal standard of computer experience. Although extensive computer experience is not a
requirement of this position, mandatory training in applications, operating systems and lab
procedures is necessary for this position. Lab Attendants/Consultants are also responsible for
maintaining the printer’s paper supply, toner, and order of the lab. One must be able to conduct
themselves in a professional manner as Lab Attendants/Consultants and also assist faculty and
staff. This position may require the student to be available some nights and weekends as well as
additional time during extended hours. Additionally, Lab Attendant/Consultants should
demonstrate the ability to maintain the computer labs under minimal supervision, as well as,
having a sophisticated knowledge of supported applications and operating systems. Lab
Attendant/Consultants are responsible for maintaining the security of the equipment in the
computer labs and reporting any software and hardware problems to the manager.
Student Support Tech / HelpDesk AssistantThese students work in our ITS office assisting students with their technological needs and also
work directly with our HelpDesk Staff assisting them with daily tasks and work orders. These
students are trained on a yearly basis. A sophisticated level of technical proficiency is required in
all operating systems, hardware, software, and networking skills. Delivery of computer supplies,
printouts, office material, and correspondence is a component. Assist staff members with
departmental inventory. Some heavy lifting is involved. A mature, responsible, dependable, and
dedicated individual is required for this position, as well as, one with good communication skills,
an ability to work with a team, and also on their own. One must be able to conduct themselves in
a professional manner as many of the daily activities involve interaction with the student
community.
