The
Widener Law & Government Institute and
Pennsylvania Cable Network will produce a new town hall legal show in 2012 and 2013 titled
Law & Government Forum. The shows will cover timely legal issues,
with some being recorded on Widener Law's Harrisburg campus and the rest
on other nearby college campuses. The audience will consist of law
students and - on non-Widener campuses - political science students. An
expert panel of Widener Law and political science professors will
discuss questions posed by a moderator and by the audience.
The
shows will be supported through the L&G/PCN Practicum. Students who
enroll in the practicum will assist faculty and the moderator with
research on the topics chosen for each show. Practicum members will also
have the first opportunity to question and comment when the shows are
recorded. Appearance on this show, especially coupled with helping to
produce the show, will be a valuable resume addition. Enrollment is
limited in the practicum, so students are encouraged to enroll a soon as
possible. The L&G/PCN Practicum is one credit hour in the Fall
Semester of 2012 and one credit hour in the Spring Semester of 2013. The
class will meet at 5:15 p.m. on Mondays during the fall semester. Any
student with questions should contact Professor
John L. Gedid at
jlgedid@widener.edu or (717)-541-3901.
The new show continues Widener Law's relationship with PCN, which began when Widener faculty members were invited to participate as panelists in several PCN shows on current law and policy issues. The shows were very well received by the network and by the public. Several of these faculty members from Widener’s Law & Government Institute suggested additional topics for shows to PCN, and were invited to produce the shows. They did, and their shows were so well received that PCN invited Widener’s Law & Government Institute to produce a monthly show for PCN. As a result, Widener Law & Government Institute faculty and student-fellows produced eight panel discussion shows during the 2010-2011 academic year and another eight during the 2011-12 academic year.
