LAURA HANDEL is Staff Attorney for the Health, Education and Legal assistance Project: a Medical-Legal Partnership (HELP: MLP) at Widener University School of Law and Crozer-Keystone Healthy Start (CKHS) and Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) at Community Hospital in Chester, Pennsylvania. She works exclusively with the participant and client populations of the CKHS and NFP programs – low-income pregnant women and families with children under two years of age – helping to improve family health and quality of life through direct legal intervention. She also delivers regular legal trainings to all staff within Community Hospital’s Women and Children’s Health Services department and collaborates with other community advocates and legal aid attorneys to affect systemic change in the policies and practices of agencies that serve the Chester community. Ms. Handel’s practice includes a wide range of legal areas, including Public Benefits, Housing, Special Education, Family and Social Security.

Ms. Handel co-teaches the courses Poverty Law and Medical-Legal Partnerships (Fall) and Disability Law and Medical-Legal Partnerships (Spring) at Widener Law’s Delaware campus.

Ms. Handel graduated from Widener Law in 2008. In 2009, she was awarded the Christine M. McDermott Legacy Award for Outstanding Performance in Widener's Clinical Program and Ongoing Dedication to Pro Bono Legal Service. She is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
